An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, highly motivated, proactive and adaptable Registered nurse to cover maternity leave as a Deputy Ward Manager. The Haematology Oncology Suite comprises of a 10 chaired area and 5 bedded area with one side room facility.
The care provided on the Haematology Oncology Suite includes the delivery of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, blood transfusions and other complex treatments for haematology patients in a day case setting.
The unit also provides a blood transfusion service, treatments and investigations for other specialities including gastroenterology, endocrinology and rheumatology. In addition to the day case treatment and investigation service, the unit also manages haematology clinics.
This post offers the successful candidate the opportunity to enhance and develop their managerial skills in assisting the ward manager to lead a dedicated team of Nurses and Healthcare Professionals.
- You will be pivotal in ensuring the Ward runs efficiently and effectively.
- You will have experience and knowledge with regards to the varied specialities that the ward covers and be able to support the team in this evidence based care.
- You must have excellent leadership qualities and be able to act as a role model for the Nursing Team to ensure the highest standards of care and patient safety.
- Through your leadership you will assist the ward manager to effectively manage all resources whilst ensuring the highest standards of care to patients.
- With excellent communication and commitment to your team you will ensure compliance with all Corporate and Divisional objectives and continuous professional development.
- You will assist with the manager to ensure patient records are maintained and monitored in accordance with the Trust's data collection policy and procedure, ensuring that documentation reflects the care provided and that you address any issues or concerns that arise.
- You will assist the team in the ongoing service improvement to ensure we are providing the highest standards of care.
Competence In Chemotherapy Delivery Is Essential.
The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:
- The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds
- Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility
- Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.

The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.
