Your role will be based in Barrow as part of the UHMBT Community Respiratory Service, delivering Pulmonary rehabilitation assessment clinics, home oxygen safety checks and blood gases and domiciliary symptom management care to people with chronic lung disease.
You will join an established Community Respiratory Team of Nurses, OTs, Physios, ACPs and support staff, and be part of the Morecambe Bay Respiratory Network of integrated respiratory care.
This role would be ideal for an experience B5/B6 Nurse with prior experience of community working, managing respiratory disease in hospital or general practice setting, or for an experience Community Respiratory Nurse wishing to relocate to beautiful South Cumbria.

- Undertake full Respiratory assessments in the clinic or home setting, including: History taking, examination and some interpretation of Respiratory investigations
- Planning care optimisation and signposting patients to other services
- Respiratory disease self management education and support with inhaled medication
- Providing patient disease specific education in line with NICE )e.g. COPD) and the BTS Pulmonary Rehabilitation guidelines
- Work collaboratively with other members of the MDT to provide the best care collectively, for our patients.
- Record patient data metrics relating to Pulmonary rehabilitation as part of the National PR audit [NRAP]
- Travel around the Barrow/Furness area (and as required for staffing cover, as far as Kendal area) for community working in patient homes, Barrow-based clinics and community group venues in the Furness area
- Develop and improve access to good respiratory care by working closely with general practice colleagues as part of the MBRN MDTs and pathways.
- Support local breathe Easy support groups through attendance and patient education
UHMBT Integrated Community Services provides care outside of the hospital setting, including community locations and people’s own homes.
UHMBT Hospital services operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life-threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
