Care Assistant
Permanent, Variable Hours - 36.5 hours.
Job Purpose
- To provide care and support to service users with differing levels of need and dependency.
- The role requires that the care assistant delivers care in a sensitive and person centred way, placing the Service User at the forefront of the care given.
- The care and support will be varied, ranging from moderate forms of support through to complex and detailed care pathways, requiring well developed skills.
- All care assistants are expected to work in a unified and flexible manner to deliver excellent quality services. Post holders will be expected to participate fully in the make up and review of service user care plans, moving and handling plans, risk assessments and other related documentation involved in the service users care needs.
Main duties and responsibilities
- To contribute to delivering the care needs of all service users as per assessed need within the individual care plans.
- To contribute to delivering care and services in accordance with the requirements of care quality commission (Care Quality Commission (CQC)) standards.
- To administer prescribed medicine under the supervision of the team leader and in accordance with care quality commission (Care Quality Commission (CQC)) and Royal Pharmaceutical Standards.
- Assist with service user’s admissions and discharges effectively.
- To work in a way that ensures vulnerable service users are safeguarded.
- To liaise on occasions, as appropriate with other agencies/professionals, including care management staff and residential unit staff.
- To contribute to records that ensure compliance with care quality commission (Care Quality Commission (CQC)) Standards and DCC policies, which may include the use of I.T.
- To assist in maintaining the safety and security of the premises, staff and service users living in the home.
- To contribute to health and safety and adherence to Health and Safety Act 1974.
- To report any issues of concern to line manager.
- To participate in the mentoring of new staff as part of the Induction process.
- To attend and contribute to meetings as necessary.
- To assist with domestic tasks throughout the home.
- To assist with minor catering duties including food preparation and serving at meal times.
- To conform to, actively commit to and promote DCC Customer Service Standards both with internal and external 'customers' when using any communication media including telephone, email and face to face.
- To carry out any other duties which fall within the broad spirit, scope and purpose of this job description.
