About Us

The Otium Centre is a privately-owned day provision for young adults from the age of 18 upwards who have additional needs, learning difficulties and/or physical disability. Situated in Oulton, near Lowestoft, we are ideally situated for Members from Waveney, north Suffolk and south Norfolk areas.

Our Centre has a relaxed, fun atmosphere and our days are as varied as there are days in the year. whether we are staying in for the day, or going out and about, you'll find us laughing and having fun whilst still managing to incorporate learning new skills, knowledge and awareness.

We believe that everyone has the right to be treated equally and with respect and dignity. We also believe that interacting with others and socialising is important. We plan together, eat together, talk together and play together. We encourage our Members to participate in activities that they enjoy but we also encourage them to try activities that are new. Our Members make choices, learn about responsibilities and try new things, all at the same time as developing physical and social skills, strengthening their mental wellbeing.

We support our Members if they want to work towards personal goals, helping them to achieve social confidence, independence and enabling them to enjoy their hobbies and interests. We aim to provide a happy, safe environment where everyone can develop to their full potential and learn new skills.

Our days are structured, but every day is different. A selection of activities (including down-time) are available each day and the Members choose in the morning planning meeting what they want to do ... and just as importantly, what they want for lunch!

The staff at The Otium Centre are carefully selected. We are intent on giving a high quality service and have exceptionally high standards, therefore we are committed to employing the right people. All staff participate in induction and mandatory training courses and we encourage and support professional development. Every team member at The Otium Centre brings experience, energy, kindness, compassion, creativity and commitment.
