About Us
Somerset NHS Foundation Trust runs two acute hospitals, community services, 13 community hospitals, mental health and learning disability services, and a quarter of Somerset's GP practices across the county.. Formed through two strategic mergers, with our most recent being with Yeovil District Hospital April 2023, we are now one of the largest UK NHS providers.
Peter Lewis, our chief executive, said: “We have created one trust because we want to provide better care for our patients and ensure that everyone in the county enjoys consistent access to high quality services irrespective of where they live. Working as one organisation, and therefore eliminating organisational boundaries, puts us in a better position to support people to stay well, give equal priority to mental and physical health, deliver services in the most appropriate setting, help us to further improve care for our patients and service users, and make better use of our resources.
Through these mergers, we’re able to make our services more consistent and accessible. We have over 13,000 colleagues who deliver or support our patient services. They work in a huge array of roles, from nurses to therapists, doctors, researchers, scientists, porters, cleaners, kitchen staff, accountants, receptionists, and more.
Our vision is to be an organisation that gets it right for our patients, carers, colleagues and communities through an inclusive culture of partnership, learning and continuous improvement.
